I was running the Icarus Illumina XL firmware and there weren't any problems, but for reasons that I'm regretting I decided I wanted to revert back to the stock Inkbook firmware. I thought dropping update.zip into root would do the trick. Nope.The update seemed to progress normally, but then something errored out and it started showing the dead android icon.
The device reset and got stuck on the Icarus Illumina XL splash screen with a never ending loading bar that just keeps going.Anyways, after trying a bunch of stuff, I'm currently falling on desperation plays. I have access to the device right now only through ADB. I was thinking, maybe if I had a backup of another inkbook 8, I could restore from there. Is this possible? I'd suggest the internal. If that's what you're doing, then the only thing I can think of is to use the instead.Since you are seeing the Icarus splash screen, it sounds like loading the Inkbook update.zip with Icarus firmware is what's borked.

Assuming I could get a nandroid backup off my broken (screen) Inkbook, it would still be a chimera (Icarus firmware) so I can't offer you a backup. In fact, I have no idea how I'd get a nandroid backup anyway since you aren't running TWRP or ClockwordMod recovery.You might contact ArtaTech's support through the Mobilread Forums. I'm basing the backup possibility off just the adb backup and recovery commands.

I don't know if TWRP or ClockwordMod would be necessary for this. Running the backup command myself redirects me to the device to confirm, so I don't think you would be able to with a broken screen.I've tried just going back to the Icarus firmware but am unable to get my device recognized now by the rockchip batch tool.I have sent ArtaTech a support email.
It was really vague though and didn't mention anything about Icarus firmware. Figured I should leave that part out. Will try the Mobilereads forums if they don't get back to me through that. Update for posterity. AraTech responded with instructions on how to reinstall their firmware for a different device than the inkbook 8 and a zip file containing an.img file for their firmware and a modified version of the rockchip batch tool renamed AraTech tool v1.8. Their instructions really didn't help, but I was finally able to get my device recognized by both their tool and the original rockchip batch tool by rebooting into bootloader using adb.From cmd 'adb reboot bootloader' - device screen freezes, no other indication that anything happened, but device is suddenly recognized by the tool.
